Goodbye TV. It has been interesting knowing you for the last forty seven years, give or take.
My earliest recollections are from around age 3 or 4, back when you were just black, white and snow. You sure had a funny set of ears back then and hadn't yet developed your remote. Yep, you were still a relative youngster then; exciting, inovative, the wave of the future. We grew up together. You were always a bit older than me, a bit wiser, full of answers most of the time.
Somewhere along the way though, we drifted apart. Much was due to apathy and new interests on my part, the other reason was because you abandoned much of what I believed to be our previously shared principles.
I think it was about the time you went to college that our views began to differ. Could it have been the liberal proffessors you sat for hours listening to, or was it the peace protest marches outside your classroom windows? Somehow you came away from college a different person. Somehow you always seemed to voice more and more liberal rhetoric regardless of the truth or what the scientific facts confirmed. Change, any change, from the "Establishment" was encouraged. It mattered nothing to you that the Establishment was founded on tried and true methods developed over many years of trial and error. History matters little when you are young, brash and know it all. Chet, David and Walter all left you shaking their heads and muttering to themselves about times changing for the worse(little did they know of their own part in that change).
It may have been during your college years that you were introduced to drugs, alcohol and "Free Love". For many years that seemed to be your only focus. You had millions that idolized you for your free-wheeling lifestyle and devil-may-care attitude. You were THE Star, you were the one everyone wanted to hang around with every spare minute they could find.
Some of us continued to grow up and soon found our fascination with you waning. The same old, tired, stories you continually presented. The re-telling of other stories badly done. When you ran out of the old stories you moved on to real world stories that were made to seem adventurous with "Reality TV". Drug dealers, Prostitutes, Politicians and other common criminals became the new stars for your new generation to idolize and admire. Gone was your once proud proclamation that "Good will always triumph over Evil". Your stars were now, more often than not, of the Evil faction and Good just barely scraped by. Gone are the Heros fighting for truth, justice and the American way. All the Heros were indifferently thrown under the bus for greed and ratings.
On February 17th of 2009, as I understand it, you will be moving to a new address. I am sorry have to tell you, but I will not be visiting you after you move. Our friendship is now beyond repair and I am not willing to pay the required tithes and make the other commitments to visit you. I am sure your new friends on the Left will keep you company while you and they exchange compliments and fawn over each other. It is a match made somewhere but I doubt it was created in heaven.
So TV, its Goodbye, Adios, Farewell. I would say "God go with you", but I know for the most part, you no longer believe in God. I only wish you luck in your future endeavors because I believe your success in the future is based purely upon luck and not talent. Should you ever decide to change your ways and return to a moral, just, and patriotic attitude let me know and I might consider renewing our acquaintance.
